The Taylors Falls Old Jail Bed & Breakfast is one of 13 (of course there’s 13) sites featured in the book Mysterious Minnesota, released by Llewellyn Worldwide book publishers. Author Adrian Lee chronicles visits to the haunted building in Taylors Falls, and many other places elsewhere in Minnesota-- in his paperback book that is a combination of historic facts and colorful fiction, balanced by plain old good storytelling. Taylors Falls B & B has apparently been home to many sitings of spirits and “light anomalies” as well as strange happenings. Author Lee chalks the spirits up to the colorful history of the bed and breakfast and old jail. One haunting could be a long departed steamship captain, his cigar smoke can be smelled by those reporting having encountered this spirit. Another is “Etta” wife of a Schottmuller brother who ran the brewery in Taylors Falls. Etta’s presence, Lee writes, is most often felt in the small bedroom and the blue room where she slept. Lee relates a story a staff person from the B & B told him about Etta’s ghost. The book is about 300 pages of interesting haunting tales with lots of Minnesota history woven into each site described. It’s a great summer read for brief interludes in the hammock or on the porch couch. If you enjoy “digging up the ghostly past” you will enjoy spending time with this. See llewellyn.com.
