Margaret Boo Johnson was born on a farm south of Chisago City, Minnesota on April 17, 1924. Her parents were Emil and Hedvig Johnson. Both immigrated from Sweden, so we still celebrated many of the Swedish food traditions. Margaret had two older sisters, Evelyn Strand (1014-1996) and Ellen Shodahl (1917-1984).
They remained very close throughout their lives and traveled to Sweden in 1983. Margaret graduated from Chisago High School in 1941 and then attended a business school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She worked in an ENT office in the Medical Arts Building. She returned to Chisago/Lindstrom to marry Hubert Boo on September 21, 1946. They lived on a farm three miles south of Lindstrom for 33 years. With Hubert’s mother Anna (1973) and father Charlie (1948), they raised three children. Barbara married Dale in 1972 and have two children Eric and Trisha, and a step-daughter Lori and four grandchildren. Charles married Cindy Koch in 1981. They have three children Jill, Jeff, and Marie, and one grandchild. Brian married Kathy Johnson in 1980 and have three children Michael, Amanda, and Steven. The farm was sold after Hubert died of cancer and Margaret moved to Park Avenue in Lindstrom. She worked at the Wards store and then the Lindstrom Hardware store.
She married Roy Johnson and they enjoyed several years of traveling and friendships before Roy became a resident at Parmly. Roy died in 2005. In November of 2006, Margaret moved to the Parmly Apartments where she enjoyed the friendship and activities of the residence. In November 2011, she became quite ill and became a resident of Parmly care facility, where she died May 24, 2012. Her last words that we know were, “I want to go home.” Margaret is preceded in death by parents Emil and Hedvig Johnson; sisters Evelyn Strand and Ellen Shodahl; and husbands Hubert Boo and Roy Johnson. She is survived by children Barbara (Dale) Martin, Charles Cindy) Boo, and Brian (Kathy) Boo; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, friend and faithful servant. Funeral Services were Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Lindstrom. Arrangements by the Grandstrand Funeral home in Lindstrom. Condolences may be left online at www.grand strandfh.com.
