Rick Nolan got the endorsement to run against Chisago County’s Eighth District Congressman Chip Cravaack, when DFLers held their endorsing convention in Duluth last weekend. The Saturday, May 5 event gave the Democrat party nod to Nolan on the first ballot, giving him 133 of 175 delegate votes cast, according to MPR and the newspaper reports from the Duluth area. Nolan, who was born in Minnesota in 1943, is a former congress member, and business owner. Nolan doesn’t have a clear shot to November, however. To be on the ballot he still has to defeat former Duluth City Council member Jeff Anderson and former State Senator Tarryl Clark-- who will be taking their campaigns to an August primary for the right to be the Democrat challenger to Cravaack, R-North Branch. Cravaack defeated James Oberstar two years ago for his first U.S. House seat.
