“Minnesota Soils” was the theme for this years Poster & Essay contest. The Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) annual poster contest was a huge success this year with approximately 200 6th grade students from the North Branch Middle School participating. Each year a theme is chosen and presented to area schools. This year the theme provided students with the opportunity to learn about the many facets of soil, why our soil is so important and how we can better protect and preserve this amazing resource. The posters are judged at the local level on 50 percent impact of conservation message, 30 percent originality, and 20 percent artistic arrangement, the first place winner at the local level received $50.00 and the second place poster received $2. All the students who made a poster were given a candy treat from the SWCD for their participation. Be sure and view their great artwork, http://www.chisagoswcd.org/poster_contest.htm. Thank you to the following teachers who took advantage of this great teaching opportunity from the Middle School –Mrs. Moeller, and Mr. Lizotte.
