Five decades is a long, long time to be in food service. And, Kaffe Stuga in Harris has not only surpassed its 50th anniversary, it’s also been run the whole time by members of the same family. Monica Hult, daughter of Darrell and Janet Ramberg, is new at the helm and just took over the cafe last month. Darrell (center) bought ‘the stuga’ from his parents in 1989. The restaurant opened in 1959. Kaffe Stuga has served everyone from singer/cowgirl Dale Evans, to Minnesota governors...and Twins player, Joe Mauer’s grandfather stops by on his way to the lake, Monica said. She thanked all the people who have supported the stuga’s home-cooked offerings and commented that customers seem to have a new appreciation for fresh, sit down cafe meals made to order, versus mass produced drive-thru food. Darrell (Janet couldn’t attend) and Monica were presented with a certificate of appreciation for their decades of doing business and providing jobs in Chisago county by the county commissioners. Their district commissioner, Mike Robinson (second from rt.) had the honor of highlighting the accomplishment along with county Economic Development Authority Executive Director Chris Eng.
