Dorothy M. Nelson

Dorothy M. Nelson, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Friend, age 96 of Lindstrom, died on May 26, 2012. Preceded in death by husband Howard; siblings Cyrus, Earl and Barbara; and son-in-law Merle Peterson. Survived by children Carol Peterson, Marcia (Pat) Smith, Kristine (Richard) Henley, Peter (Debra) and George (Teri); 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters June, Gertrude, Marjorie, and Mary Alice. Dorothy Palmquist was born in Pleasant Valley, south of Shafer in 1915. She was a graduate of North High in Minneapolis and of Polk County Normal School, St. Croix Falls, WI. She taught country school in rural Polk County, WI. She and Howard Nelson were married May 14, 1939. They owned and operated the Community Market in Lindstrom, MN until 1976. They raised their family of five children in Lindstrom and were active members of the community. Dorothy was active in community service, including Chair of Chisago County Red Cross, Chair of Chisago County Cancer Society, District PTA Chair, founding member of Lindstrom’s Civic Women’s Club, President of Chisago Lakes Hospital Auxiliary, President of Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church, Matron and Secretary Lakeview Chapter #281, and O.E.S. She volunteered her services to the community in other ways too numerous to mention. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and one hour prior to service at church. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Lindstrom.
