Competitive archery league forming, Nov. 15 organizing meeting scheduled
Does your son or daughter enjoy shooting a bow? Do they have an interest in doing it competitively? Chisago Lakes Area is putting together a competitive archery league. They will be competing in the National Archery in the Schools Program or NASP. We have been working on the art and skill of archery in sessions after school for a few years now. The club meets on Thursday nights for kids interested in competing. The club is being taught by Todd Bielicki a BAI certified instructor. Since beginning the club we have seen the club grow from just a few archers to nearly 30 archers. We have competed in many tournaments with great results. Over the last two years we have had approximately 30 archers participate in the MN State Archery Tournament. Two years ago we had a student Jake Werner qualify for the NASP National Archery Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. Last year we had three students Jake Werner, Kaitlin Bielicki, and Lydia Hindt qualify individually and we also qualified as a team to participate in the NASP National Archery Tournament. Due to lack of funding and not being prepared or having travel accomodations ready for an out of state tournament, we were unable to participate at the National tournament as a team in Kentucky. Jake and Kaitlin did make the trip and both finished in the top half of all archers(8,171 archers a Guinness World Record!). The experience of shooting with archers from all over the United States was PRICELESS!! This year we hope to put together an archery league with supporters to help us get new equipment and help us with funding to participated in more tournaments and possibly produce a team to attend Nationals this year. If this sounds like something you and your child would be interested in, please come to our first night of archery Thursday November 15. If you have any questions in prior to signing up, please feel free to call Jennifer Werner at: 651-261-8831. You can sign up through Chisago Lakes Community Education 651-257-2600 Class #3688. We will have bows for the kids to borrow during the season. On the first night of class we will go over the rules, commitment and tournaments. We will also be able to show and inform you and what type of bow is needed if you wish to purchuse your own.
