Take time to thank your local firemen

This week is Fire Prevention Week. It’s a week to honor the men and women who donate their time to ensure our safety in our homes and our businesses. These people risk their lives day in and day out. Oh and did I mention that they are volunteers? That’s right, every one of our local firemen are volunteers and all work at other full time jobs. Being a fireman is a thankless job...until Saturday. You can actually thank them in person. Saturday is Center City and Lindstrom’s Fire Prevention Open House. You are invited to come meet the firemen, climb on the fire trucks and be a fireman for a day. Center City’s open house is held at the fire hall and Lindstrom’s will be at City Hall this year. Chisago City Fire Department will be visiting Lakeside Elementary and Chisago Lakes Primary schools on Friday. There the kids will get to climb on the trucks and even squirt a real fire hose.

Not sure if this is necessarily a good thing or not, but Wild Mountain opened its doors for the ski and snowboard season last weekend. Of course it is good news, but that just means snow in our yards will soon follow. Wild Mountain is the first ski resort to officially open this fall. Quite an accomplishment! This is the second time that Wild Mountain has been honored as the first ski resort to open in the nation. Wild Mountain has always been known for opening early. In fact, they have been the first to open in Minnesota for the last 35 years. Congratulations to Wild Mountain!
