Esther P. Johnson

Esther P. Johnson, of Almelund, passed away Saturday, October 20 at age 91. A loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, she was a strong and steady presence to her family and a good friend and neighbor to many. Her kind and gentle spirit and quiet good-humor will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit, parents Carl (C.W.) and Bettie, her infant twin sister Edith, sister Ruby, brothers Earl, Leslie and Archie, and infant sisters Florence, Violet and Viola. She is survived by her children Sharon (Fred) Remund of Marine-on-St. Croix, Sheldon and Norman Johnson of North Branch, Tom Johnson of Cambridge, Natalee (Dean) Oknich of Lindstrom, Vickie Johnson (Skip Buck) of North Branch, four grand-children (Eric Alvin, Kris Green, Heather Johnson, Cindy Szafranski), six great-grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Esther lived nearly her entire life in the Almelund community; the last 60-plus years on the farm she and her husband purchased in the 1940’s along the St. Croix River, east of Sunrise. She attended Almelund school and graduated from North Branch High School in 1939. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 25 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Almelund.
