North Branch Girls The Vikings (5-2-1) struggled in two conference matchups, losing 4-0 to Totino-Grace last Tuesday, September 4 at home, then losing 10-0 on the road to St. Francis on Thursday, September 6. But a trip to Two Harbors got the Vikings back on the right track as Bayley Ertl scored three goals for her third hat trick of the season to lead the Vikings to a 4-1 win over the Agates. Kadie Mattson scored the other goal for the Vikings and also assisted on one of Ertl’s goals. Kora Amunrud and Morgan Morganstern each picked up an assist in the game. Goalkeeper Alyssa Rupp made eight saves in picking up her fifth win of the season. North Branch Boys The Vikings (1-5-1 overall) lost to fourth-ranked Totino-Grace 9-1 last Tuesday, September 4. Tyler Gudmundson scored the Vikings’ only goal, assisted by Brett Bergstrom and Levi Kolke. It was Gudmundson’s first goal of the season. Kolke scored the Vikings’ lone goal, unassisted, in a 5-1 loss at St. Francis on Thursday, September 6. It was also Kolke’s first goal of the season. Chisago Lakes Girls The Wildcats (1-2-1) exploded for 11 goals as they shut out Fridley 11-0 Thursday, August 30 at Fridley for their first win of the season. The Wildcats found themselves on the other end of a shutout at home, losing 4-0 to Irondale on Thursday, September 6. Chisago Lakes Boys The Wildcats (2-2-2) lost to Irondale 2-1 at home on Thursday, September 6. Cloquet-Esko-Carlton came all the way down to Lindstrom to play the Wildcats on Saturday, September 8 and went all the way back to Cloquet without any goals being scored. Yes, they played the game – but it ended in a 0-0 overtime tie because, no, they don’t have shootouts during the high school regular season. To say the Wildcats play low scoring soccer is an understatement – they have neither scored nor allowed more than two goals in any of the six games they have played so far this year.
