Grapplers recognized at banquet

The North Branch wrestling team had a very good season in 2013, capped off by a few exceptional section tournaments for some of the guys. Seniors Zack Sundly, Sam Peltier and Eric Bergstrom all earned All-North Suburban Conference and state tournament berths. Senior Jake Pilz was All-NSC, and juniors Aaron Senne and Reid Johnson were both also named to the All-Conference team. Johnson also participated in the state tournament for the Vikings.

The Viking Award went to Pilz, who finished the year 29-10 for North Branch. The Honey Badger Award went to the tenacious Bergstrom. The 215-pounder finished the year 29-9 with 21 falls. He earned a trip to the state tournament, where he went 0-2 after drawing defending state champion Joe Schiller in the first round.
