After narrowly missing out on team state tournament berths the last two years, but getting individuals to the tournament, Chisago Lakes gymnastics coach Brett Kjos has decided to resign from his post. The nine-year head coach has really brought the program on strong over the last few years, but he decided now was the time to move aside. “Brett had many athletes qualify for state meets through the years,” Activities Director Neil Fletcher said. “More importantly, Brett had a great bond with all members of his teams through the years. This brought a team cohesiveness second to none.”
Next year, the Wildcats move to the Mississippi 8 Conference. In the North Suburban Conference, the ‘Cats were contending for the conference title with North Branch and St. Francis. Now, all three of those schools are moving to the M8C and joining elite gymnastics programs Cambridge-Isanti, Big Lake and Monticello in what will be a brutal gymnastics conference. Regardless of the conference switch, Kjos decided now was the time to step away from the team and let someone new take over as the head coach.
