Irene E. Sandberg

Irene E. Sandberg, age 88 of Chisago City, formerly of Shafer, passed away peacefully Friday, December 13, 2013. Irene was born in St. Paul on September 8, 1925 to Elmer and Ethel Peterson. Her family moved to the Chisago lakes area when she was an infant. She attended both Lindstrom-Center City High School and Taylors Falls, from which she graduated in 1944.

She was united in marriage to Allen Sandberg in 1946. They lived on their farm north of Shafer, where they raised their three children. Irene also worked at General Fabrications in Forest Lake for many years and at Hazelden in Center City. She loved to travel, garden, read, and quilt. She was also very active in her church. Irene is preceded in death by husband Allen; brother Lloyd Peterson; and four brothers-in-law.

She is survived by children Kathy (Bill) Johnson of Apple Valley, Larry (Dawn) Sandberg of Center City, & Joan (Bruce) Phillips of Maple Grove; eight grandchildren: Denna Dudzik, Paul Sandberg, Tanya Frank, Melissa Hogzett, Holly Menzie, Robert Phillips, John Phillips, and Kathryn Phillips; six great grandchildren; siblings Ramon (Barb) Peterson, Helen Larson, Elaine Stevens, and Marie Larson; sister-in-law Lila Hertzberg; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Visitation one hour prior to service at church. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City.
