Youth helping Humane Society

A half dozen local youth will be at the Chisago City Farmer’s Market July 12 and Aug. 16 to raise funds for Northwoods Humane Society. The youth have been working hard to make a variety of homemade healthy dog treats, sweet breads, brownies, and handcraft items such as scarves (for humans and dogs), bracelets, and hot pads. Also available are pet accessories that were donated to benefit the Humane Society.

Last year the youth, ages 11 to 14, donated hundreds of dollars to the Northwoods Humane Society to help keep the facility operating during a financial crisis that threatened to close the facility. New this year is the opportunity to also have some donations given to World Vision International, a non-profit organization. World Vision is one of the most effective organizations dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty, especially in rural areas of the world. The children in this group of friends are passionate about animals, but they also know that not all children are as fortunate as they are and so they are expanding their fundraising efforts. After extensive research, they decided to donate globally to World Vision. The group will also be marching in the Karl Oskar Parade for the Humane Society. Submitted by, Carmelita Nelson
