Bringing water education to students in Chisago County
The Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) annual poster contest was another success this year with both the 6th grade students from the North Branch Middle School and 5th grade students from the CE Jacobson Elementary school in Rush City participating. Each year a theme is chosen and presented to area schools. This year the theme provided students with the opportunity to learn about the many facets of water, why our water resources are so important to us, and how we can better protect and preserve this amazing resource in their own watersheds.
The posters are judged at the local level on 50% impact of conservation message, 30% originality, and 20% artistic arrangement, the first place winner at each school received $50.00 and the second place poster received $25.00. All the students who made a poster were given a candy treat from the SWCD for their participation. Be sure and check out our web site to view their great artwork at http://www.chisagoswcd.org/poster_contest.htm
