This weekend officially kicks off the summer celebration season. North Branch will host the 88th annual Midsummer Days. Beginning Wednesday there’s a family fun show in Central Park. Thursday has bingo at the American Legion. Friday the celebration really kicks it into high gear with the Ambassador program, fireworks and a street dance held at the Legion. Saturday, bring your young ones to the high school football field for the annual Kiddie Olympics followed by a kiddie parade at City Hall. Saturday afternoon the North Branch Fire Department will hold their water ball fight on Elm Street. On Sunday, bring your lawn chairs, the annual Midsummer Days Parade will begin at 2 p.m. and run right down Main Street.

Grab the family and come out for some great times. If you have not renewed your subscription yet, the time has come when we must stop sending you the paper. For all of those who have sent their subscription renewals in, I say "Thank you". From the bottom of my heart. If you have not, don't worry, just send in your blue card or call us and we will gladly get you up and running again. In an era when everyone is convinced newspapers are going the way of the typewriter, we have actually increased our circulation. That is a combination of great readers like you and wonderful advertisers who see the value in a community newspaper. Again, I say thank you. Make sure you keep part of next weekend open.

The good folks at First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom would love for you and your family to come to their Family Fest. The event takes place on June 29 and runs from 1 to 7 p.m. Family Fest is a faith based celebration presented by a partnership of First United, St. Bridget of Sweden, Trinity Lutheran, Lakes Free, and Lightshine. You will find great barbeque featuring pulled pork, Swedish slaw chips and beverage for only $5. Entertainment will feature an Elvis Tribute, face painting, great music, giant inflatables and of course ice cream (I should have led with ice cream). Admission is free and you are asked to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Speaking of music, remember Harmony in the Park is in full swing in Lindstrom. Every Wednesday evening, you are invited to Lions Park to enjoy a night of great music. Bring your lawn chair and your neighbors.

I have another trip to the homeless shelter planned in a couple of weeks. If you have been spring cleaning and have some clothes you were going to discard, why not give them to a homeless shelter?  I will gladly take your donated clothes ( decent condition) to a homeless shelter. If you can, please seperate them into kids and adults. I take the adult clothing to a homeless shelter for adults in Pine County and the kids stuff I take down to an inner city homeless shelter in Minneapolis. I know it is not fun giving stuff away, but it is the right thing to do. Thank you and God bless you.
