Freshman Nick Kress made waves last year as a talented eighth grader, and this year, he took his game to the next level, earning a trip to the state tournament. Kress was one of only two competitors who were under 10th grade that qualified as individuals for the tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids. The nerves showed a bit for Kress in his first appearance at state.
He shot a 43-44 in the first round for a score of 87. On the second day of the tournament, Kress carded an 86 after shooting a 40 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine. Although the All-Conference golfer finished tied for 84th in the tournament, the experience he earned in his ninth grade year is invaluable. He’ll be aiming for a few more returns to Bunker Hills Golf Course, and improved results once there in the coming years
