Fans of the North Branch softball team didn’t get to see as many games as they’re used to this year because of bad weather, but the quality was still there. The Lady Vikings handed out their season ending awards and they were highlighted by Kaylee Lofboom and Mikayla Carlson. Lofboom, a junior, was awarded with the team’s co-MVP award, as well as being named to the All-North Suburban Conference team as a pitcher and infielder.
Carlson, a mainstay as the team’s backstop, was the other co-MVP for the Lady Vikes, and she was also named the Best Defensive Player for her work at catcher. The junior also earned All-North Suburban Conference Honorable Mention. The Most Improved Player went to Sydney Meath, who was an absolute terror on the basepaths. Rookie of the Year was infielder Megan Carlson, who had plenty of timely hits for the Vikings throughout the year. The Vikings Coaches Award went to senior Kari Berggren for her leadership and the work she did on the field at third base.
Other All-Conference award winners were outfielder Sydney Meuller and pitcher/infielder Emily Trunk. Erin Kvam earned All-NSC Honorable Mention in the last year that the Vikings will be in the North Suburban, Academic Awards were also aplenty on the team. Academic All-Conference went to Meagan Rollins, Berggren, Meuller, Trunk and Claire Peltier. Rollins, Berggren and Meuller all were also recognized as Academic All-State for the work they did in the classroom.
