North Branch Area Public Schools welcomes two new members to its administrative team. Jason Schoolmeesters has been hired to replace Transportation and Grounds Director Bill Burton, who is retiring, and Darin Marcussen replaces retiring Technology Director Chip Treen.

Marcussen, 41, is a 15-year resident of North Branch and has been in education for 18 years. Of that, he spent six in the classroom and 15 years as a technology leader. He comes to North Branch Area Public Schools from Lakeville Public Schools, where he was the Coordinator of Technology from 2010-2013. Marcussen has an M.A. in learning technology from St. Thomas University. He and wife Marsha have four children, Brittany, Maddie, Jonah, and Jackson; and two grandchildren, Maxwell and Corbyn. "I look forward to being even more involved in the NBAPS community," said Marcussen. "Providing appropriate technology services and life-long skills to our students, staff, and community members is crucial in this day and age. I am committed as a staff member and a community member in making a difference in the lives of students." Marcussen enjoys fishing, sports in general, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering as a youth coach.

Schoolmeesters, 36, hails from Maple Grove and began his career in transportation in 1997 as a bus driver for Hopkins Public schools. The Bethel College student was serving as Hopkins' Traffic and Safety Coordinator, after a stint with private carrier Frist Student, before coming to NBAPS. He and wife Emily have three children, Aaron, Noah, and Lydia. "I am humbled and honored to begin my service as Transportation Director for North Branch, and I look forward to many great years," he said. Schoolmeesters enjoys golf, playing with his children and spending time with family. "Although we are sad to see Bill and Chip go, we are thrilled to welcome both Jason and Darin," said superintendent Deb Henton. "Both bring great assets to our educational environment and have much to contribute to our school district."

The School Board also approved a five cent hike in school lunch costs for next year, at the Board meeting June 13.

And Jason Hartmann’s resignation was accepted. He is moving on to Centennial Dist. to be Blue Heron Elementary School Principal.
