North Branch's Energy Elf part of district's success
North Branch Area District is beginning its fifth year of participation in the Schools for Energy Efficiency (SEE) program. The theme for Year 5 is "Envision" and encourages people to "Imagine a Better World". At the Annual Peer Exchange held in June, Energy Efficiency Coordinator Becky Leuer was named the Energy Efficiency Coordinator of the Year for the SEE program. Amy Harker, SEE program consultant commented that "she is passionate about life and whatever she takes on you will see her passion and ability to make things fun...Becky is very creative when it comes to engaging students and staff." Her activities include reading to elementary kids, making a yearly energy calendar, creating an energy coloring book, or writing the “Stall Street” Journal put our monthly to reporting results and energy saving tips that gets posted on bathroom stalls. Leuer stated, "the district is very pleased with the results for this quarter that nearly double what we showed a year ago. This shows the commitment the school district has to conserve and be a good steward of tax payer money." The district has achieved these results with a combination of behavioral changes and asset improvements. SEE provides many education activities for students and staff. Around the district, Leuer is known as the "Energy Elf" for the character she created to use during classroom activities with students.
