Chisago Lakes Hockey Association recognized 104 skaters who achieved in academics during their 2012-2013 hockey season. The award recognition took place on Thursday, March 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom with an ice cream social.

The S.K.A.T.E. program, Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education, is a statewide academic achievement program that provides recognition to student athletes who achieve a 3.0 or higher GPA during their hockey season. Chisago Lakes Hockey Association has participated in this program for several years. In order to qualify, athletes must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA or equivalent during the grading period that covers the hockey season; participants must be members of a registered youth hockey club or association for the current season; and submit an application.

These students received a certificate, bag tag, stocking hat, compliments of SKATE and District 10 Hockey. They also received a $5 gift card from Wild Mountain. Various raffle prizes were provided and donated by Chisago Lakes Hockey Association, Bunkies, Pizza Man, McDonald’s, Forest Lake Skate and Cycle. Like other youth sports, hockey provides an opportunity for learning some life skills necessary for their future. They learn skills such as work ethic, teamwork, time management, and goal setting. These same skills are important for achieving academic excellence.

The S.K.A.T.E. program emphasizes the importance of achievement in the classroom. Chisago Lakes Hockey Association in conjunction with S.K.A.T.E. are proud to announce the 2013 recipients. Congratulations to these athletes:
