NSC Meet at Victory Links
The North Branch girls golf team had been battling poor weather conditions all year, and there was hope that was the cause of their slow start. But, with the sun shining and the course dry last week, the Vikings still struggled in their North Suburban Conference meet at Victory Links. “The conditions were the best we’ve seen this season, and still, as a team we didn’t take advantage,” Head Coach Dave Ambers said after the meet.
The Lady Vikes, missing a few of their regular golfers for the meet, finished in last place in the meet with a total score of 228. Sophomore Janice Elkerton notched the top score for the Vikings, carding a 49. “Janice is showing improvement every round,” Ambers said, noting that the team as a whole started slow last year, even in ideal conditions. Ruth Elkerton (60) and Maddie Alden (58) filled in admirably in the empty spots. “Both girls did a nice job and their scores were good enough to count in the final total,” Ambers said proudly. Benilde-St. Margaret’s edged Spring Lake Park by one stroke to win the event with a 172. St. Francis was in a close third with a 175.
