Do not spend Thanksgiving alone, we have an app for our local businesses

The Fairview Clinic in Chisago City and our Family Medicine Clinic at Wyoming are sponsoring a “Cards for Troops” drive through the American Red Cross. They want kids and adults to create cards for troops and bring them to the clinic by Nov. 26. They do not need envelopes. The cards will then be combined with cards from other Fairview Clinics and sent to the American Red Cross which will send them to troops for the holidays. I hope you can help.

Make sure to mark your calendars for Saturday November 30. This is the day following “Black Friday” or as I call it “Hide in my basement so my family thinks I am gone day”. It is our chance to “Shop Small”. By shop small, it means to avoid the large box stores and get out and honestly support the community you live in. We have some amazing businesses in our area, let’s get out and start supporting them!

FindIt! is our very own smartphone app that is dedicated to the Chisago Lakes and surrounding communities. What is an app and what does it do? An app is a program used on smartphones such as games, Mapquest, and Netflix to name a few. They are easily installed and even easier to run. There is a few ways to get an app on your phones, you can scan a qr code, those square codes you see everywhere. Or you can click on a link to either the Itunes store or the Googleplay store. It easily installs and is easy to use.

So why is this a good time for you to have FindIt! on your phones? Because we are finally at the stage where we have many valuable deals available for just FindIt! users. Deals for restaurants, skiing, retail, events, and much more. How easy is it to drive down the road and your phone notifies you of a special on pizza that you can redeem by simply showing the pizza place your phone. There is an unbelievable ski offer from Wild Mountain on FindIt! right now. I created this app for one reason. To help local businesses. This app will serve as a new avenue for people and businesses to connect and ultimately drive people into our businesses doors. It costs the user absolutely nothing to use, it is very unintrusive, and it is very exciting. We are going through some major changes here at the Press. FindIt! is just one of many new facets of the County Press. Look for big changes in the very near future! I understand that times are changing, I also understand that we have the ability to morph with technology, the reader's likes and dislikes, and business owner's economical outlooks. For the hundreds who helped out at the Feed My Starving Children mobile packaging event in Lindstrom, and are wondering if the meals are helping out Phillipine typhoon victims-- the manna packs assembled at Lakes Free Church recently were actually shipped to Haiti and Cambodia. The super-typhoon struck after the food had already been shipped Nov 6. Pastor Ric Stanghelle said the Love a Child organization is distributing the Haiti food supplies and Cambodia is being serviced by Reach Now Intl. The Love a Child group is Feed My Starving Children’s biggest partner, Stanghelle reprts more than 20 million meals packed by FMSC are sent out through them each year.

Next week is Thanksgiving. It is a time for families to unite and share some rreal quality time. It is also a very tough time to be alone. You don’t have to be. If you have no plans on Thursday, I would invite, encourage and plead with you to please come to Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. Some of the greatest volunteers in the world are gathering to bring you a spectacular Thanksgiving meal that you can share with others.
