Both tennis squads swept in first round of Section 7

Elk River 7, Chisago Lakes 0
Both County tennis teams suffered sweeping losses in the first round of their South Sub-Section in 7AA. Chisago Lakes was the higher seed, earning the fifth spot. But they ran up against a buzzsaw fourth seed in Elk River. The Elks are a tough team to go up against at the four. Their only losses this year were to Forest Lake, Andover, Minnetonka and St. Cloud Tech. Three of those four teams landed in the final Class AA top 10 rankings. The Wildcats couldn’t string together the points needed to knock off the Elks and the losses started to pile up in the match, ending with a 7-0 loss.

Forest Lake 7, North Branch 0
North Branch knew going into their match that it would take next to a miracle to topple Forest Lake. The Rangers are ranked seventh in the state in Class AA while North Branch only grabbed a handful of wins this year. The Rangers unsurprisingly swept North Branch by a score of 7-0, ending the Vikings’ team season. Individual Sub-Sections The Hindt sisters will represent Chisago Lakes in the individual portion of subsections. Sami Hindt drew the fourth seed out of 16 girls. She has a first round match up on Thursday, Oct. 10 against Railee Schepper of Princeton. Isabell Hindt is seeded sixth and will open section play against 11th-seeded Kate Hansen of Cambridge-Isanti. For North Branch, Janice Elkerton and Alyssa Nordberg will participate. Both have a tough go of it, getting seeded low. Elkerton earned the 14th seed and will face third-seeded Megan Brown of Elk River in the opening round. Nordberg is the 16th seed an draws top-seeded Destiny Lee of Andover.
