Mr. Thomas Hennemann Sr. U.S.M.C. retired of Rush City, MN and formerly of White Bear Lake, MN; died Friday, October 4 at the University of Minnesota Hospital-Fairview in Minneapolis, at the age of 88. Thomas was born in St Cloud, MN August 28, 1925 to Carl and Mary (Heinen) Hennemann. Tom joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and made the Marine Corps his career.
He served his country during WWII in the South Pacific and also in Korea where he worked on an aircraft carrier as ordnance crew. He retired from the USMC in 1964 from Quantico, VA as First Sergeant of Headquarters Squadron. Here Tom was known as "Top" to the men and officers and "Hank" to the commanding officers. He was a member of the "Chosen Few" Chosin Reservoir for Korean War Vets organization. Tom enjoyed fishing and hunting ducks and geese. He was an avid reader of history, even as his eyesight was failing. He was also very active in the DFL party of Minnesota attending many meetings and caucuses. Tom is survived by his wife Marge; daughter Cecilia Erdmann of Mahtomedi, son Thomas (Barbara) Hennemann Jr. of Cottage Grove; daughter-in-law Kathryn Hennemann of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Mary Erdmann of Vadnais Heights, Michelle (Sean) Padden of White Bear Lake, Marissa Erdmann of Little Canada, Katy (Nick) Zastro of San Diego, CA., Curtis Hennemann of St. Paul; brothers Bill Hennemann of Phoenix, AZ., Larry (Jenny) Hennemann of River Falls, WI. and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Rosalia (Heinen) Hennemann and his son Carl Hennemann.
Rev. Laurie O'Shea will officiate at Tom's funeral service; 11 a.m., Friday, October 11 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City, 1000 South Jay Ave. A time of visitation and reviewal will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Music will be provided by Rev. Laurie O'Shea. Casket bearers include Katy Zastro, Mary Erdmann, Michelle Padden, Marisa Erdmann, Ray Henderson, Wally Simpson, Stan Iskierka and Bob Carter with interment at a later date. Memorials are preferred to flowers.
