The Chisago Lake Lutheran Church Peace Comfort Quilters made a nice donation this week. The club donated 10 homemade quilts to the Chisago County Homeless Shelter and another three to the Chisago County Friends of the Homeless. The 15 quilt club members are from all denominations, and meet once a week. So how many quilts can a group put out meeting only once a week? Last year these amazing women quilted over 400 quilts! Every quilt was given to a needy organization. Some of the organizations that have been recipients of these quilts are: local veterans, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, Lindstrom Food Shelf, St. Croix Falls Food Shelf, The Refuge, Dorothy Day Center, Smile Train, Operation Smile, Lions Clubs, Baby Blanket and Bridging. What makes this even more unbelievable is they only sew from January through April. Materials for the quilts are donated including money to buy what isn’t gifted. As if 400 quilts isn't enough, they also put together hundreds of midwife packages that include baby onesies, hats, wash cloths, baby blankets, and bar soap. The packages are sent to Global Missions in St. Paul. The group wants it known their quilts are made with love and each quilt is personal to them. They emphasize they are always looking to add members to their already dynamic team. If you would like to join or would like to donate please call 651-257-3140.
