The late spring snowfall created hazardous conditions for several drivers, with many calls of vehicles into ditches or off the road that had to first wait for snowplows to clear a path for tow trucks. A two vehicle crash at the start of the snowy weather Wednesday, April 16, sent a couple local people to the hospital. About 4:15 p.m. emergency responders and deputies went to Stacy Trail and Hemingway, and found an F150 and a Saturn sedan had collided nearly head-on. The preliminary details are that the truck was eastbound on Stacy Trail (#19) and the driver Wade Alexander, 43, Taylors Falls, told authorities he lost control on the wet roadway and struck the Saturn which was westbound. The car was driven by 18-year-old Max Schantzen, Chisago City. He and his 18-year-old passenger were transported. A passenger in the truck was not hurt. Stacy-Lent firefighters also responded.
A rock was used to break an outer window pane at the strip mall where McDonald’s is located in Chisago City. No entry made into vacant part of mall. An ECE power pole was taken down when a vehicle slid into it at Rush Point Drive, in Fish Lake Twsp. about 7 a.m. April 16. Driver refused transport for care. Damages due to vandalism reported at Shafer Meadows Park reported. April 17 a theft from an outbuilding on 530th in Rushseba Township. A Polaris 500 ATV, Yamaha Kodiak 400 and a chainsaw are missing.
April 18 a watermain break reported at KIng’s Bluff neighborhood in Chisago City about 7 a.m. Lakes Area Police arrested a juvenile suspect in a case of theft of items from vehicle. April 19 a maple syrup cooking unit caught fire at a pole building on 255th in Franconia Township. Incident was reported at 10 p.m. A Shafer firefighter sustained an eye injury at the incident. April 20 deputies were called to an assault of a female by a male suspect at a home on Center Avenue, in Center City, late Saturday April 19. A suspect was apprehended a little after midnight after allegedly fleeing and resisting arrest. The 23-year-old is jailed on DWI, property damage and assault.
Two males cited for marijunana in Interstate Park, ticket written about 7:25 p.m. April 20 one driver was arrested for DUI and others were being booked for minor consumption-- when a farm field off Morgan Avenue in Chisago Lake Township was damaged. Authorities found one suspect, allegedly drunk, behind the wheel of a truck that had gone off the road, which was towed. Two other trucks were also in the field and several parties were trying to get the truck out. The incident was reported about 4 a.m.
