Dan was born at the St. Croix Hospital on December 2, 1958 to Everett and Mary Eichten of Lindstrom. He graduated from Chisago Lakes High School in 1976. Dan studied in the auto body program at what was then called Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech.
Dan traveled to San Diego in 1979 for his brother’s wedding and decided to stay. He worked for a shop in the San Diego area for four years before opening his own auto body and mechanic business. In 1987, Dan returned to Minnesota, ultimately settling in Chisago City. He owned and operated the Lindstrom Auto & Alignment business.
Dan served on the Chisago City Council from January 1993 to December 1996. Dan loved to golf, go deer hunting, find bargains, and fix vehicles. He was an excellent mechanic, once described as an outstanding diagnostician of mechanical problems.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Everett, his brother Peter, and brother-in-law Timothy Garvey. He is survived by his mother, Mary Beert Eichten, siblings Lois (Eugene) Velaski, Bloomington; Monica Randall, Center City; Sister Beatrice Eichten, OSF, Little Falls; Rita Garvey, Clearwater, FL; Phillip (Sharon) Eichten, San Diego, CA; Pauline Eichten, St. Paul; Shirley (Robert) Albrecht, Sedona, AZ; Paul (Paula) Eichten, Dell Rapids, SD; Linda (William) Richardson, Poway, CA; Susan (Louis) Frykman, Maple Grove; Douglas (Joye) Eichten, Granton, WI; Audrey (Mark) Huettl, Yuma, AZ; Patrick (Nancy) Eichten, Lindstrom, Terrence (Angie) Eichten, Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Friday, December 5, from 5-8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 11:00 am at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Lindstrom, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
