We say goodbye to one of the good guys; I forgot something quite big
Many of you would know him from church. He and his wife Mary were fixtures at St. Bridget’s Catholic church in Lindstrom. Pete played in the church band and at other functions.
I never had the opportunity to become real close with Pete, but I did know him fairly well. His softness, his thoughtfulness, and his humble demeanor immediately left an impression on me as well as hundreds of others. Pete was the true difinition of one of the “Good Guys”. No matter what function, no matter what he had going on in his life, if I or anyone bumped into him, he would stop, focus on you and what you had to say, and make you feel like the only person in the world. That is a trait that is not only hard to find, but dying in our world of technology and e-mailing.
Pete Grundhoefer was a great guy. I think the best way to describe what he meant to me and many others would be, that Pete was the kind of man we men aspire to be.
Pete had a strong faith, and he is reaping the rewards of that faith today. Rest assured, he is in a better place. We will miss you Pete.
A couple of weeks back, I might have had the biggest brain fart I have ever had. Debatable I know, but this time I am serious. I somehow forgot to mention my Grandmother’s birthday. Evelyn Silver turned 97 a couple of weeks back. She is still living in her house, still climbing stairs to do laundry, and still driving her car everywhere. In fact, she just purchased a new (to her) Hyundai to scoot around town.
Gram has and continues to be the single most influential person in my life. I look to her for insight, I look to her for support, I look to her for wisdom. She is my sounding board for any and everything happening in my life. She has taught me so many of life’s lessons over my life.
So Gram, I know you are reading this, Happy Birthday to the greatest Grandmother a person could have. I love you with all of my heart.
Congratulations to Fairview on their offical ribbon cutting for the beautiful new clinic. Everyone by now has had to have observed it being built. It is in front of the old clinic next to the library, and it is beautiful. Soon they will be hosting an open house to the public where you will get your chance to view how great a clinic it is.
On Saturday at the library, bring the kids and learn how to build gingerbread houses. Not only will the kids (elementary aged please) learn about architecture, they will be able to build a wonderful gingerbread house as well. The event begins at 10:15 and runs until 1 p.m
The folks at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City would like to invite you and your family to their annual Sankta Lucia program. Come see a Christmas celebration from yesteryear. It is a tradition filled, moving program that makes you appreciate our heritage. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Swedish Club will be serving Christmas breads, cider, coffee and pepparkakor.
The Anonymous Santa program is well underway. They are in need of volunteers to help with the program. If you would like to touch a needy child’s life or to donate to the great cause, please call Lisi at 651 983 0495.
I (against my wife’s wishes) am going to relate a story. Last week my wife went to work. She works at the bank in Marine. She parked in front of the bank. She never parks in front, never. About noon, an elderly woman who was banking was backing up when her foot slipped off the brake and on to the gas. She slammed into my wife’s car. I mean slammed. Luckily she wasn’t hurt. When the officer came to write up the report, he looked at the car and turns to me and says my wife’s car saved this lady’s life. It was at that point that we realized there was a cliff with a drop-off of about 40 to 50 feet in front of our car. Suddenly a dent wasn’t the end of the world. Tell me things don’t happen for a reason.
