North Branch Police were able to stop a suspect vehicle involved in an alleged home robbery and assault Sunday, Feb 9 and make three arrests. The officer waited at the only exit for the neighborhood at Hemingway Avenue and Hwy 95 for the suspect vehicle, and stopped the suspects and made the arrests as a sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene. The county attorney has charged a Robbinsdale woman, Kirkeisha Washington, 25 and Breanna Taylor, 24, from Bloomington; with burglary and fifth degree assault. An alleged accomplice Jamal Clay Smith, 23, of Richfield, is charged with terroristic threats and possessing a controlled substance.

A North Branch man had called authorities about 3 a.m. to report that a “massage” that he’d arranged over the Internet had gone bad. He said the two women were taking personal items and “exhibiting strange behavior” according to the criminal complaint filed with court for probable cause. The 45-year-old North Branch man tried to keep the two women from exiting his house as he contacted 9-1-1; but a third party, Clay Smith, who had been in the vehicle parked outside the house reportedly kicked in the residence door, and the victim said this suspect threatened to shoot. The women allegedly also became combative. North Branch police also recovered a woman’s purse in the snowbank, along the route the suspects would have had to drive in exiting the neighborhood, which belonged to the man’s mother, who lived at the home. A large quantity of cash the victim alleges was stolen, was found on Clay Smith as he was booked. A plastic baggie on his person contained a prescription drug.
