Please come to the Home Show this weekend, Mike and Trudy - Thanks

With the big "Thaw" on Tuesday, it has people thinking Spring..right? What goes hand in hand with Spring? The Home Show. It is here, our signal, our dove, our glimmer of hope that yes indeed, Spring is on its way. I am personally inviting you and your family to the 2014 Home Garden and Business Show at the Chisago Lakes High School on Saturday and Sunday. The show is jam packed with businesses that want nothing more than to show you how they can help in your life. Maybe it's a re-model, or a new garage, maybe you would like to sign your student up for senior pictures, no matter what area of your life needs a little work you’ll find a provider at the show.

You should have received a circular in your Search Shopper last weekend. If not, they are at the local Post Offices. There are over 100 vendors. These are local folks that offer some amazing products and services. Door prizes will be given away hourly. Norm the Magician, Unexpected Company, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (count me in), River City Cloggers will all highlight the entertainment all weekend. The show runs Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. I hope to see you there.

If you remember back in November, I wrote about a presentation that Bill Buell from New Richmond gave at the high school. It was called "Future Walk" and it was a presentation on how a community (New Richmond) was struggling to find its identity, much like the Chisago Lakes area. I wrote a couple of articles on the subject asking for input from the public on how to change our overall identity and transform ALL of Chisago Lakes into ONE cohesive, symbiotic, destination. I did hear from quite a few of you, but like everything, life got in the way. Well I am super excited to tell you that we have brought Bill Buell back to do another presentation. The last one was switched and not very well attended. I, having sat through the first one, am here to ask you, tell you, beg you to please come to the presentation. I especially encourage all businesses in the Chisago Lakes area to attend. The presentation will be April 10 at the Chisago Lakes Library at lunch time. I will remind you right up to the event. As I wrote in the past, we have two ways we can go as a community, Choose to move forward.

Next week marks the end of an era in Lindstrom. Sadly we must say goodbye to some great friends. Mike and Trudy McKenzie have been the face of the Swedish Inn since 1992. If you have lived here for a long time, you would recognize Mike's face from long before that. Mike and Trudy are moving on to a different chapter in their lives. Trudy told me that life is great right now. It is wonderful to see them so happy. I would like to thank Mike and Trudy for all of the great memories, all of the great breakfasts and for the hundreds of baskets of fries I have eaten over the years. Please make a point to stop in before February 25 and say thank you to Mike and Trudy.

There are still tickets available for the 2014 Chisago Lakes Wrestling Extravaganza. The event is held at the Lent Town Hall building on April 12. Tickets purchased fund the Chisago Lakes wrestling program as well as five other Chisago Lakes sports. So what’s at the extravaganza? How does $10,000 total cash prizes given away sound? How about a nice dinner and dancing? There will also be raffles for firearms, jerseys, game tickets, jewelery, purses and much more. Last week would have been my dad’s birthday. I can not believe he has been gone over 10 years now. Time really does fly. Happy Birthday Dad.
