State Patrol has released partial information on a fatality Monday, Feb 24 in Lindstrom, when a car struck a semi trailer rig head-on on the highway. Douglas Hilstrom, 71, of Lindstrom died at the scene. He was operating the passenger car. The semi truck driver was identified as 46 year old Lloyd Law, Maplewood. He had injuries but they were not “life threatening” the patrol stated. The patrol, and numerous police officers and deputies were on-site for hours. Traffic control continued into the night, with squads still in position around 8:30 p.m. Authorities received the crash report about 3:30 p.m. working off preliminary details that a 1999 Crown Victoria car had crossed the centerline eastbound and collided head-on with a westbound Freightliner.

The crash site is just east of the County Road 14 (Lincoln Road) and #8 intersection. Traffic had to be re-routed north at #14 to 316th and east to North Lakes Trail, where vehicles could re-enter Highway 8. There was also a detour set up west of Chisago City, sending drivers along the south end of Chisago Lake and Green Lake, to Olinda Trail, and back to Lindstrom. Lakes Area Police handled two calls for assistance in suicidal situations over the week. The Lakes Area Police Community Service Officer did two “kennel” inspection stops-- one at a home on Lamar in Chisago City and one at a home on Itasca Avenue. Multiple animals in both locations were well-cared for.

A car fire February 18 at Shoreview Court reported 3:15 p.m. Lindstrom Fire Dept. handled. Feb. 18 a child was hurt sledding near Lakeside School, about 5 p.m. Authorities oversaw an ambulance transport per parent request. February 19 a burglary was reported from a storage unit in Shafer. Tools, flat screen T.V., etc are missing. Also lumber reported stolen from a pole shed in Lent Township on Kable Ave. February 22 a barricaded male warrant suspect, age 44, was resisting deputies at an address on Ivywood Trail, and Lakes Area P.D. sent an officer to assist.

If you have lost a dog, one was picked up by the community service officer, from near Central Bank in Chisago City, and can be claimed at Northwoods Humane Society on Hwy 8 near Forest Lake. Theft from a garage in Chisago City reported. School related calls include graffiti damage inside of the high school in Lindstrom, and a cigarette violation, where a middle schooler was ticketed. Deputies went to an address on Rush Point Drive and checked the welfare of horses. There appeared to be hay, water and shelter.
