She was born to Alfred and Johanna (Hedenskog) Anderson on May 24, 1920 at the family farm in Center City, Minnesota. She attended Furuby School for the first eight years, then attended Lindstrom-Center City High School and graduated in 1939. She worked for an insurance company in Minneapolis until 1945. She then moved to Denver, Colorado. She was married August 23, 1945 to Leslie (Mac) Maguire. He was in the Air Force and stationed at Lowry Field, Colorado. After his discharge in September 1945, they moved to Idaho and lived on his parents ranch. He drove truck for a lumber company and she ran a service station that they leased from his parents. In June 1946, they went to Center City, Minnesota to visit and decided to stay.
May and Mac had four children, Carol Ann (Jack ) Sandgren, Sandra Jean, Michael Leslie (Kim) and Laurie Lynne. After they divorced Mae worked at Plastic Products and then for Hazelden Foundation as a baker and then dietary supervisor.
She was a member of the VFW, and the KiChi Saga Swedish Club. She volunteered at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Sequoia 4-H Club, the local food shelf, and Chisago Lakes Extended Care. She led tours of the church for Swedish visitors. She loved sewing, cooking, gardening, and spoiling her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brothers, and grandson Aaron Lutz. She is survived by her children, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Memorial Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Visitation one hour prior to service at church. Spring interment at Chisago Lake Cemetery in Center City.
