Roger was born in Shafer Township on January 19, 1935, to Robert and Mabel (Walker) Bjork. He attended grades 1-8 at Almelund School and graduated in 1953 from North Branch High School. He enlisted into the Army Reserves and was called to active duty in 1961. After active military service, he was employed by the Taylors Falls Creamery as a milk hauler. He worked for Pearson Plumbing & Heating and obtained his Master Plumber License. He started his own business, Chisago Lakes Plumbing & Heating, opening a shop in Center City, MN and later moving his business to his residence in Shafer Township. On May 16, 1975 he married the love of his life, Jacqueline L. (Nelson) Rue, and they raised their four children; Tom, Janet, Randy and Michelle.
He was a very talented man who had many interests and hobbies. He spent many hours in his shop creating anything and everything he could. He was an avid pilot who passed his love of flying along to his wife, Jackie, helping her obtain her pilot license. Many Sunday afternoons were spent flying with his wife and children. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, weekends at the lake, traveling, his pets, feeding the birds, drawing, reading and puzzles.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jacqueline; his four children; Tom (Anne) Bjork of Taylors Falls, MN, Janet (Robert) Krueger of Centuria, WI, Randy (Crissy) Rue of Ham Lake, MN, and Michelle (Tom) Valvoda of Pine City, MN; 10 grandchildren; Michael Bjork, Laura, Steven and Mitchell Krueger, Rachel, Nicholas and Mikayla Rue, Bryce, Brittney and Chandler Valvoda; sisters, Sharon (Wayne) Redland of Lakeland, MN and Gloria Bourasa of Shafer, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mabel Bjork and brother-in-law, Gene Bourasa.
Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City, Minnesota.
