Can you believe the Celebration of the Lakes is next weekend? This winter is flying by. Last week I was writing about the warm weather we had and today I just ingested my third dose of Aleve. When it comes to shoveling, the old back isn't what she used to be. For those of you that are wondering about ice thickness, I was ice fishing last weekend and there had to be two and a half feet of good ice. That really cold spell we had last week, added to the already thick ice on the lakes.

There is a really fun contest taking place with the celebration this year. The celebration committee is looking for the "Most Unique" fish house. You are encouraged to send a photo of your house [email protected]. They are looking for both exterior and interior of the fish house. The winners will receive a prize from Vexilar. Good luck! In this paper, we have a registration form for the Chili Contest. Please fill out the form to enter. This is always a super-popular event with tons of great Chili. The public is invited to come and judge for themselves. The event is Friday, January 23 at 6 p.m. at the Lindstrom Community Center.

There are a few spots left for teams to enter the Smoosh Race. You will need a team of four (It helps to have at least five for support and to fetch refreshments) to compete in the race. You will manuveuer a course while strapped to a pair of 2x4 boards. Not as easy as it sounds, but very fun to watch. You can register for the race and other events at www.chisagolakeschamber.com. Last year, the Celebration of the Lakes held its first ever dance. It featured the popular Chemelewski Polka Band. It was a huge hit.

This year the dance is back, but with a different band. On Saturday, January 25, at the Lindstrom Community Center, Swing and A Miss will perform. Swing and A Miss is an awesome band that plays everything from swing jazz to rock and roll. I have heard them before, they are really, really good. The dance is for all ages and here is the best part....It's FREE. What do you have to lose? Come out and see some great entertainment. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 8. Look for the 2014 Celebration of the Lakes Tab this weekend and all around town. We could still use some volunteers to help with the Celebration of the Lakes. If you are interested, please call 651-257-1177, thank you.

There are still a few spots left for the 2014 Home & Business Expo. The show is on February 22 and 23 this year. Last year’s show was the best show in years, and hopefully with the economy (my fingers are crossed) improving, this year’s show will top them all. If you register your booth before Febrauary 3, you will receive a considerable savings. A registration form can be found on the Chisago Lakes Chamber of Commerce website. We are putting together our annual Chisago Lakes Area Visitor Guide as we speak. The guide is filled with tons of area information including attractions, important contact information and fun things to do.

The guide is a great form of advertising for your business, because it sits in waiting rooms, and business lobbies all year long. On top of that, it is delivered to every home in the area. If you have a business, I would highly encourage you to give us a call and get in the book. If you don’t believe me that it works, just ask any of the advertisers that have been in it for years and years. Call us at 651 257 5115 or shoot us an email at [email protected]. We will help you create an inviting ad for your business that will be seen for a year.
