Wyoming F.D. uses local donations for fire extinguisher training program
The Wyoming Fire Department is announcing the launch of a new Community Education Program focused on hands on fire extinguisher training for Wyoming businesses, students and groups. Wyoming Fire Chief JJ Hastings expects this new program to be a hit with Wyoming residents and business owners.“We were approached last spring by a local business to supply them with annual fire extinguisher training,” said Chief Hastings. “What better organization to provide the training, right? We’ve used conventional fire extinguishers for years, but we had to work on a way to make it more economical and ecological.”
The solution was found in a training prop manufactured by Bullex corporation. “It’s a self-contained training prop that is easy to use, safe and uses only water, propane and electricity. The only problem was funding it,” said Chief Hastings. Local business and organizations answered the call, providing nearly all the funding for the training prop purchase. Rosenbauer, Fairview Auxiliary, Meadows on Fairview and Maranatha Assembly of God all contributed towards the purchase. “Rosenbauer, Fairview Auxiliary, Meadows on Fairview and Maranatha have always helped out when we needed it. They were great, I showed them our vision for the training program and they filled our needs. We are very fortunate to have so much support for the Wyoming Fire Department,” said Chief Hastings.
The training prop that was purchased will be put into service immediately and will be the cornerstone of a new Community Education Program. One of the Wyoming Fire Department’s initiatives is to be a major resource for businesses and residents on fire safety, training and emergency preparation with classes ranging from Thin Ice Awareness to CPR/AED use. “We have to form a strong working relationship with our community. The more we are able to work together to fill our mutual public safety needs, the better” said Chief Hastings. “Fire Extinguishers are the single most effective way to prevent a small accident from becoming a major emergency.
Early, effective fire extinguisher use is key, the problem is not many people have experience using them and we are going to change that.” To schedule a time to receive the new training contact the Wyoming Fire Department at [email protected] or send us a note on Facebook.
