Local resident and Karl Oskar Days grand marshal Carla Norelius is blowing that adage right out of the water. The news that Norelius will be riding in this weekend’s K.O. Days parade as Grand Marshal could easily count among hundreds of times she’s been in the news.
Norelius has been a visible presence in the community for decades-- mostly as being on the scene for Fairview healthcare’s community outreach and events.
She has been the connection between very public programs like the mentoring effort at the middle school, bike safety events and the Fairview organization. She frequently gets her picture taken to present fundraiser checks to groups and organizations being recognized by Fairview. She even handed over a box of human bones discovered in a family member’s home, to the county Historical Society for a proper transfer to a tribal representative after the bones were identified as belonging to Native people.
Norelius retired from Fairview in January after 44 years, having started her career at the old Chisago Lakes Hospital in Chisago City; where there’s a major Fairview clinic expansion now underway.
She would love to see you at the parade in Lindstrom, it steps off at 6 p.m. July 12.
