David was born October 14, 1940 in Ulen, MN to William and Marie (Day) Zehms. After growing up in the Detroit Lakes area and graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, after which he attended the University of Minnesota. He then went to work for RCA as part of the NASA space program. Later, he opened his own electronic and entertainment business in Lindstrom, MN and retired in 2005. Since his retirement he, and his significant other of 26 years Judi, have traveled the country in their RV traveling to 49 states, three Canadian Provinces and two Mexican states. David was a recovered alcoholic and a member of AA for 44 years. He loved to hunt, fish and the outdoors. He also enjoyed making things with wood.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Raymond Tietz, Duane Tietz and his sister Evelyn Bergstrom.
David is survived by his significant other Judi Lund; his brother Vernon (Nettie) Zehms of Denton, TX; his sisters Mabel Thorsen of Lake Park, MN, Vienna Baker of Detroit Lakes, Pearl Anderson of Grantsburg, WI and Joyce (Virgil) Seegebarth of Hinckley; Judi’s children Todd (Tonya) Lund of Anoka and Hope (Timothy) Murray of Lake Butler, FL; Judi’s grandchildren Heather (Zac) Braun, Devin Lund and Naomi Murray; Judi’s great-grandchildren Lauren Braun and Chelsie Braun; his sisters in law Odelia Tietz of Detroit Lakes and Dorothy Tietz of Hopkins; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A Memorial service will be 2 P.M. Tuesday, July 15 at First Lutheran Church, in Hinckley, with Rev. Brenda Wicklund officiating. Music is being provided by JoAnne Richards. Visitation will be from 1 until 2 P.M. at the church. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements by Tatting-Methven Funeral Home, 320-679-1822
