A sultry morning didn’t deter 444 runners and walkers from crossing the finish line at Fairview Lakes Medical Center’s 26th annual Lindstrom Loppet 5K Saturday, July 12, in Lindstrom.  Proceeds of the Loppet go to Virginia Elizabeth Ferguson Nursing Scholarship fund, bike helmets for kids and health programs in local schools.
John Leaf, 27, Center City, edged Michael Peterka, 28, of Minneapolis to win the race in 15:58, just 8 seconds off his 2013 winning pace and a mere 5 seconds ahead of Paterka. Placing third among males overall was Luke McKenzie, 20, of Taylors Falls in 16:37.
The first woman to cross the finish line again this year was Tammi Braund, 35, Cushing, Wis., with a time of 19:27. Tying for second among women overall were Danielle Vitali, 22, Chisago City, and Rachel Baar, 36, Columbus, with a time of 20:10.
