Olson is school resource officer in North Branch, a post he has held since 2002 and has been on the North Branch department for 14 years. He lives in North Branch with his wife and two kids.
Olson thanked his chief, Dan Meyer and North Branch District Superintendent Dr. Deb Henton, for their heartfelt nomination letters entering Olson’s name into the selection process, which is overseen by the Board of the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau. Youth Service Bureau Director Jeanne Walz remarked that the “positive connections” Olson makes in the school setting and Olson’s availability and easy going mentoring with kids are assets the community should be proud of. Olson remarked that he has known past award recipients and he is proud to be included among the winners. He also knew Sheriff Trudeau and what he did for youth as far as setting the stage for opportunity, community involvement and a chance to redeem themselves -- “It really is an honor” to be presented with this recognition in Trudeau’s name, he declared. Officer Olson is pictured with the late sheriff’s wife Carol, right and Chief Meyer, and Jeanne Walz, to left. The reception was held in the North Branch City Council chambers just prior to the regular council session.
