Rain rain go away - seriously go now; do something for someone

Rain rain go away - seriously go now; do something for someone

After this week, I am convinced we are heading straight into fall. What an absolute rain event we are having. I am not sure of the totals, but if I had to guess, we must be in the five inch range with more on the way. It is wreaking havoc on the local sports teams and golf courses. The sun will come out tomorrow... will it? Please tell me it will.

Congratulations to Allison Borgstrom and Mitch Berg. They were named Chisago Lakes 2014 Prom King and Queen. Great kids that deserve the awards. I am told prom this year was spectacular. It was held at the U of M engineering building. The building is comprised of cool angles and decorated with beautiful wood. I'm glad the kids had fun.

Being a dad in this world, it is not always what "they" told us it would be. I have a son and a daughter, both teenagers, who sometimes would rather stare at their iPods than their dear old dad. I can't really blame them, I admit, I can lean towards the boring side. Being a coach of youth sports, naturally the sports I gravitated towards were the ones I had played in my days. Translation: my son's sports. Sure I gave it the ol' college try to coach my daughter in softball. But she decided long ago that gymnastics was going to rule her life, so picture me teaching gymnastics on a beam. I would scar the little gymnasts for life!

As it turns out, I have coached my son for the last nine years in virtually every sport. I have coached my daughter in two years of t-ball. Getting the picture? I love my kids equally and with such abundance, that I can not put into words. From the outside, it would appear my son gets more of my attention. That is probably correct, but not intentional. I am always looking for ways to connect with my daughter in ways that are new and memorable. While skydiving is down the road a bit, we have done some fun things. The last few months I feel like I have been disconnected with her. I have been keeping my eyes open for something, anything, that we could share. Then it happened.

I overheard her talking about some convention in Minneapolis. She was super animated when describing who was there. This was my chance. Yesterday I bought tickets to the convention. When she was told she was going to the show, she flipped out. Seriously. It was the happiest I have ever seen her. I can't begin to explain the feeling I had seeing my daughter so happy. I wish I could bottle that happiness. There isn't really a point to my story except that we only are on this planet for a short time. Why spend it worrying about the economy, finances, the weather, or what others think of you. Do something for someone today. It will give you an emotion that is beyond description.

Think your mom is the best mom in the world? You are encouraged to stop by a local participating business to pick up your entry form. The winner will be published in the County Press and win other prizes as well. For a list of businesses participating, visit www.chisagolakes chamber.com.

It’s official, the ice is out! Don’t be surprised to see a middle aged man in a parka out fishing in his boat soon.
