As the weather has improved, so has the Chisago Lakes boys golf team. They’ve been saving some of their best golf for their late-season matches, including a second place finish at The Refuge Golf Course and a second place finish in the large Monticello Invitational at the Monticello Country Club. In the Monti Invite, the Wildcats finished with a team score of 317, just one stroke off of the lead. They were paced by Bryce Thompson, who shot a season-low 75. That put the sophomore in third place in the event out of 72 golfers. Eric Chambers wasn’t far off of Thompson’s number, carding a 78 himself. Joe Olson and Andrue Telstad cam in as the third and fourth golfers for CL, carding an 80 and 85, respectively. The total left the Wildcats just short of Dassel-Cokato, who finished in first place with a score of 316.
The Refuge Golf Course
The Wildcats took to the course in the beautiful sun on Tuesday, May 13 at the Refuge, and they didn’t have their best round, but they still put some solid scores on the leaderboard. Aiden Mansfield actually scored the top spot for the Wildcats, carding a 79 on the day. Chambers came in with an 80, Olson an 81 and Thompson an 82 to get a big cluster of golfers together in the finish.
Purple Hawk Golf Course
The Wildcats traveled northwest to the Hawk on Monday, May 12 as Cambridge-Isanti hosted the Mississippi 8 Conference meet. Chambers was the stud in Cambridge, shooting a 76 on the tough course and pacing the Wildcats. Nobody else had a good day for the ‘Cats, though. Mansfield, Thompson and Trelstad all shot in the high 80s while Olson and Vince Darling went over 90. “Individually, all of the players on our team are improving, and we hit a nice stride during the Monticello Invite where we were able to beat some tough competition with Buffalo, Cambridge-Isanti, and Totino Grace in the field,” Head Coach Bryon Rogers said. “If we can keep this stride into Conference and Sections, we may be able to give both a pretty good run.” The Wildcats will be at The Links at North Fork on Thursday, May 22 for one more M8C meet before getting a section tune up on Tuesday, May 27 at Hinckley Grand National. Sections will also be in Hinckley, but will be out of their traditional Memorial Day slot because of how early the holiday is this year. Section prelims will be on Saturday, May 31 with the finals being held on Monday, June 2.
