You have one week left to purchase your tickets to the Chisago Lakes Lions Cadillac Dinner.  The dinner will be held at WineHaven on April 25.  As I have mentioned before,  your ticket gets you a great meal, into a huge raffle, and a silent auction and did I mention you get to mingle with some of the neatest people in our area?  The Lions (both Chisago Lakes and surroundingtowns) are the most dedicated, community oriented, groups in the world.  for tickets please call Gary at 651-210-8399.

We are so lucky here in Chisago County.  We have so many amazing people doing amazing things for others.  That's right, we actually have people here who care and put their efforts forth to help others above themselves.  A trait that is dwindling in the world to say the least.  I thank God for these groups and these giant hearted people who make them up.

Last week I wrote about our community losing a real pillar in Marlene Smith.  This week I am sad to announce we have lost an American pillar. Rodney Shogren has gone to be with God.  Why the pillar reference?  Rodney, on top of being a grandpa of many and a great grandpa of 17, spent a good part of his life defending our country. He was a veteran of WWII and also an ex-P.O.W.  He survived 14 months as a German captive.
Rodney later became the Shafer Postmaster and served our country in another form.  Rodney spent his life giving back to the community and he even received the Chisago County Volunteer of the Year award.  Folks, I do not write about the deaths of every citizen of our area, but Rodney is absolutely worth mentioning.  To Rodney's family, please accept my deepest sympathies, and more importantly, my deepest thanks.  Rodney will be missed.

If your daughter would like to attend the Prom for Chisago Lakes or North Branch, but maybe can’t quite afford a new dress, you are in luck.  The great folks at Recycled Wardrobes are holding their annual prom dress event.  That means your daughters can purchase like-new prom dresses for only $25.  What an amazing offer.  They have many fashionable dresses to choose from, so please take advantage of this wonderful offer.  The sale goes until April 30.

If you were one of the lucky ones to have your book “ A Christmas Wish” signed by author Lori Evert and Per Breiehagan, you know what a treat these two are.  If you missed it, I have great news.  The two will be at Gustaf’s on April 25 at 11 a.m. signing their new book “Tiny Wish”.
Make sure to mark your calendars.  This would make a wonderful Christmas gift to a loved one or even to yourself!

This is the last week we will be running our early renewal offer for subscriptions.  Next week you will receive your blue card in the mail reminding your subscription is due the first part of May.  If you have already paid for next year’s subscription, please disregard the blue card.  It is almost impossible to keep up daily with the early renewals and send the blue cards out without some overlap.  Again, I would like to state how very appreciative I am of you reading the Press and your loyalty.  I am just a dumb electrician pretending to do a job that is over my head.  Luckily I have eight of the greatest people on Earth working here who constantly rectify my mistakes.
