Evelyn was born April 16, 1930 in Berlin, Germany to parents Maximilian Victor Kusch, a tapestry master, and Rosalie Marie Martha Grund. From the age of 5 until her early 20’s, Evelyn experienced firsthand the hardships of war. These memories followed her throughout her life and she shared many stories of her past. As a result of the war, she met and married her first husband Irvin Posey, an American soldier. Their first daughter, Stephanie was born in Germany in 1953. The family moved to the United States shortly after.
She became a U.S. citizen in 1959 and they made their home in Minneapolis. The family grew with the births of their next three children; Mark, Sonja, and Harriet.
In addition, Evelyn’s Aunt Helen from Germany – the sole survivor of the family – moved to the U.S. She lived in Evelyn’s care for the rest of her life until her death at the age of 92.
The focus of Evelyn’s life was her family. Caregiving was her life’s work.
Through a turn of events, Evelyn and the children moved to Lindstrom, which they have called home for the past 40 years. Eventually, the family grew to include eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church for many years and initiated the senior card parties that still exist today. She was a woman who was known for her caring, generous and giving nature. No one ever left her house hungry. A seamstress by trade, she came to know many good friends in the Lindstrom area. Through her work, she eventually met her second husband, Milton Titrud. They were married and regularly attended services at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. They enjoyed many years of marriage by traveling, dining out, and spending time together and with family. Evelyn remained in her home until the time of her death.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, brother Franz, aunt Helen, husband Milton and grandson David Larson.
She is survived by her children Stephanie, (Floyd) Larson, Mark (Karen) Posey, Sonja Posey, and Harriet (Tom) Anschutz; grandchildren Max (Jenna), Doug, Anthony (Alicia), Christopher, Monica, Emily, Phillip, and Stefan; great grandchildren Coal, Aja, Ashton, River, and Oden; and many good friends. Please keep Evelyn and her family in your prayers.
