Ki Chi Saga Days was windy, but great; parents subscribe to the Press

Did you happen to make it to Ki Chi Saga Days this weekend?  The word that keeps popping into my head is wow.  Like “Wow, what about this weather?”. I can’t tell you how many times I heard that over the weekend.  The wind was absolutely relentless.  Then we had the meterologists on television telling us to pack it in, the end of the world was coming Saturday night.  Sunday the bottom dropped out and it felt like mid-November.  Meanwhile the wind kept at a constant 30 miles per hour.  Sorry, too negative?  It was just so out-of-the-norm for mid-August.  Most years, my biggest worry is if I used enough deodorant or not.  This year I honestly sat staring at my closet wondering if I should add another layer of clothes before heading out. Wow.

With all sarcasm aside, the weather didn’t seem to disuade people this weekend.  Yes, some of the events were hindered by the wind such as the kids fishing tournament, but for the most part, everything seemed to go according to plan.  There were plenty of runners in the 5 and 15K runs.  The skateboarding competition seemed as full as always too.

The park was filled with tons of people looking at vendor tents and enjoying some of the wonderful music in the park.  I saw “The Farmer’s Daughters” play and they were really good.  Elvis is..well Elvis.  Steve Marcio and his son Tommy always pack them in no matter what the weather.
Congratulations to Maddison Menier for winning this year’s Little Miss Ki Chi Saga contest.  She wrote a beautiful essay about what art means to her.

Frankie’s Bait and Marine held the annual Ki Chi Saga Bass Tournament over the weekend.  Nathan Whiting and Brian Wood took home the grand prize of $7,250.    Kyle Minke and Davis Sicheneder took second place and Scott Peterson and Kim Gibson took third.

One very interesting fact from the tournament was the biggest fish.  The team of Whiting and Wood caught a bass that weighed 7.2 pounds.  That is absolutely huge.  If you happened to be at the weigh-in and took a photo of the fish, please send it to us, we would love to run a picture of it.

Sadly, fireworks had to be moved back a day because of the storm of the century. Good thing, because it did actually rain.

The parade was great with 104 floats in all.  People still came out despite below normal temperatures.  It is absolutely the first Ki Chi Saga parade I can ever remember watching with a blanket wrapped around me.

I know I have repeatedly teased about the weather, but the one thing that did stick out was that people didn’t seem to mind high winds, and low temps.  Everyone had a great time.  Thank you to the Ki Chi Saga days committee. You did a fabulous job.

Parents, now that the start of school is so close we can almost taste it, this is a great time to think about a yearly subscription to the Press.  We are for a limited time offering a subscription for school-age kids’ parents for $40.  Just give us a call at 651-257-5115 and we will make sure you keep up with all the happenings in Chisago Lakes and North Branch schools.

Thank you to all who have donated clothes for the homeless.  Think you are not making a difference?  In the last week alone I have taken three loads to the shelter.  You are very appreciated.
