Lakes Area Police officers are only writing warning tickets -- for now -- but residents in Chisago City and Lindstrom, as well as North Branch, should be aware that winter hours for on-street parking are currently in effect, even with very little snow on the ground. Most city streets are off limits for parking overnight, from now until April. You can inquire at the local police department about temporary parking permits, if you have a special situation or if you expect a visitor who might need to leave a vehicle for overnight.
A couple of phone scams reported to Lakes Area over the week...most scams seek cash for a relative who is facing jail or an invented emergency in a foreign country, or callers are demanding cash for an alleged IRS delinquency.
December 5 county deputies were sent to investigate a call of a knife-wielding man at a funeral at St. John’s in Stacy. Upon arrival about 1 p.m., authorities found a 36-year-old Minneapolis man injured from what authorities said was a self-inflicted knife wound to his abdomen. The man would not follow deputies’ instructions to surrender. The sheriff’s department reports he was hit by “beanbag” style ammunition first and when he refused to drop the knife, was subdued using a TASER. Nobody attending the church funeral was hurt. Reportedly the suspect was taken to Cambridge Medical Center.
December 4 Lakes Area officers assisted at a Stacy Trailer Park address to set-up a perimeter to detain a warrant arrest suspect. Incident happened approximately 4:30 to 5 a.m.
Also Dec. 4 two juvenile males were ticketed for trespassing and fleeing when identified, in the shooting range/gravel pit owned by the county outside of Harris. The signs clearly warn no trespassing.
Somebody took dogs from an address on Fenway Court in Stacy and turned them in to the Northwoods Humane Society. The dogs were located at the facility within one day and returned home.
December 1 a grinch stole the receipts from a Franconia Twsp. tree farm, self-pay box. The monetary loss is unidentified. Brand new boltcutters were used to release the box, which authorities know because a plastic price tag from an Ace Hardware store was left at the scene.
November 30 a Stacy resident was advised of an attack alleged against his dog-- and that his animal would be classified “potentially dangerous” and conditions would have to be met. The victim/dog was in its yard on Foley Avenue when the other dog, a yellow Lab, came in the yard and bit the second animal for no apparent reason.
