Perfection is hard to achieve, no matter the sport. Perfection is even harder to achieve in alpine skiing where the tiniest loss of an edge can result in a catastrophic crash.

So, when the Chisago Lakes boys alpine ski team finished their Northwest Suburban Conference schedule undefeated in five meets, it was something to be celebrated.

They capped off their flawless conference season with a dominant performance at Wild Mountain on Tuesday, January 27.

The boys were led by Anders Brown and his first place finish. His combined time of 56.58 was three second faster than second place.
Brown also wrapped the overall individual conference championship with the win.

That second place finisher in this meet just happened to be his teammate John Frischmon. Frischmon’s combined time on the day was 59.75 seconds.

Casey Bennett kept the strong vibes going when his combined times put him in fourth place overall. He finished second on the blue course and sixth on the red for a 1:00.61 combined.

Ryan Mower and Jeremy Wesloh both grabbed top 10 finishes for the Wildcats, too. Mower came in seventh overall after staying consistent in both runs, finishing seventh in both.

Wesloh came in 10th place with a time of 1:04.49.

Isaac Bierman tallied a 1:04.57, finishing just behind Wesloh in 11th place.

Jamie Mower registered the last varsity score for the ‘Cats, finishing in 17th place in a time of 1:06.48.

The dominating finish at the top of the leaderboard led CL to 655 points. Second place Centennial had only 521 points.

Girls
The girls also won the NWSC title at Wild Mountain. They earned another first place finish, and they also had a dominating performance at their home hill.

They finished with 500 points while second place Centennial only had 397. And that was with top skier Ellie Frischmon taking a fall on the blue course.

The girls were led by Ashley Angel’s second place finish. She finished the courses in a combined time of 54.71 seconds.

Mikayla Granfors came in fourth place, clocking 56 seconds in her two runs for the Wildcats.

The two Hannah’s, Stec and Janzig, finished back-to-back in the meet and were only separated by four one hundredths of a second.

Stec came in sixth with a combined time of 56.39 seconds and Janzig was in seventh with combined runs of 56.43 seconds.

Alicia Sandberg came in 12th for the Wildcats, finishing in 57.99 seconds. Lauren Peltier came in 16th place while registering a 1:00.13 and Bailey LeTourneau rounded out the varsity scoring for CL with a 20th place finish in 1:03.12.

Frischmon finished first on the red run with a time of 25.26, but she lost an edge on the blue run and came in 48th place.

Coming into the race, Frischmon and Andover’s Ericka Copeland were neck-and-neck for the individual conference championship. Copeland held the slight lead, but they both fell in the race and actually finished right next to each other. The matching stumbled ensured Copeland the win and Frischmon second place.

She was just able to fend off teammates Angel, Stec and Janzig, who came in fourth, fifth and sixth in the conference, giving CL four of the top six skiers in the NWSC.

BOYS GOING TO STATE
The boys punched a ticket to the state meet earlier this week by finishing second in the sections, just three points behind Forest Lake.

Anders Brown won the section meet with a combined time of 1:11.36. He was first on the red course and second on the blue course.
Ellie Frischmon also earned a state tournament berth as the girls finished in fourth place in Section 7A.
