Sheldon’s passing marked the end of a long and courageous struggle with serious health issues, which robbed him of most of his sight and most of his ability to speak. Yet, Sheldon set an example of courage through his positive and joyful approach to his life even with its severe limitations. He maintained his serenity in the face of overwhelming limitations and always demonstrated unconditional love for family and friends. He lived his life by accepting the things he could not change while cherishing the good times with joy. Sheldon’s devotion to family and friends and his determination to maintain a positive outlook without succumbing to despair is remarkable, and should serve as an example for others.
He was a man with many friends and no one to speak ill of him. There is perhaps no greater testament to one’s character. Sheldon was caring and thoughtful. Sheldon’s example of courage and dignity has had a positive influence on those who knew him. He will be long remembered.
Sheldon was born on November 27, 1944 in Princeton, Minnesota, the son of George and Anna Krona. Shel had three siblings: Roger, Kenneth, and Marlys. He was a 1962 graduate of Minneapolis North High School and has stayed very close to many friends from school. Sheldon married Wendy Mickelsen, his wife of 44 years, in August of 1970. Together they raised two sons: Garrett and Landon. In 1972 he received his BSBA degree from the University of Minnesota and worked in the field of accounting including owning his own tax preparation business. Shel served in the US Army 1st Air Cavalry Division from 1966-1968 which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Sheldon was an avid fisherman and golfer.
Sheldon is survived by his wife Wendy; sons Garrett (Stephanie) Krona of Shafer, MN, Landon (Tracy) Krona of Lindstrom, MN and his three grandchildren Cody, Zoe and Karlee. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth (Micha) Krona of San Angelo, TX and sister Marlys (James) Wurdelman of Crystal, MN and many nieces, nephews and friends. Sheldon is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Roger Krona.
The funeral will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom. Pastor Brad Barr is officiating.
Pallbearers are: Christian Binsfeld, Nick Binsfeld, Josh Binsfeld, Alex Krona, Derek Krona, and Kyle Krona. Honorary pallbearers are: Ron Sumstad, Don Adams, Jim Fischer, Chuck Lawrence, Tim Kytonen, Mike Whalen, Bud Blomquist, Vance Kinkel, Terry Mickelsen and Greg Tschida. Visitation will be Friday, February 20, from 4-7 PM at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, MN and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, in Lindstrom, with a lunch to follow at the church.
