Sex offender notice being provided at Feb. 24 public meeting
Thomas Stanton, 48, is scheduled for release today, February 19, after serving his sentence. Stanton formerly went by the name of Thomas Bookwalter. He engaged in criminal sexual assault that included use of a weapon to gain compliance. He has served his sentence and is not wanted by authorities, but state law allows for certain classifications of offenders to carry with it a requirement to notify the community upon residence being determined. A Level Three offender status has been determined based on prior behavior and risk to re-offend. State law does not require community meetings for Level Two and Level One offenders, who may also be living in our community.
The informational meeting is at 6 p.m. February 24, and will include a presentation by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, sheriff’s office and North Branch Police.
The meeting is at the North Branch High School Auditorium and is expected to run about 90 minutes. Additional information will be provided on personal safety and general education on the state sex offender community notice process.
