Fun on the ice, Celebration of the Lakes is next week, we have the info you need
Here is the thing folks, this is such a great festival because it’s outside. That means you don’t have to spend hours picking out your outfits and doing your hair. You just put on comfortable warm clothes and go have fun with your neighbors. It’s the best of both worlds. The lakes are thick enough to support vehicle travel and perfect for snowmobiles and four wheelers. It is all looking good.
If you look at page 14 in our outdoors section, you will find a schedule of events. You will be receiving a Celebration of the Lakes tab in your Search Shopper this weekend. I encourage you to keep it handy for times of events you may wish to attend. The schedule is also posted on our Facebook page.
The celebration begins officially on Friday, January 30. The Methodist Church in Lindstrom will hold a puzzles, pie and potato soup night beginning at 6 p.m.
And at 7 p.m., you are encouraged to come to Meredees, Anthony’s and The Northern to meet the Pro Fishermen and women of the NAIFC ice fishing circuit. These pros will speak about what it’s like to be a pro and offer tips and answer questions. It is a relaxed, intimate setting and promises to be great.
Without mentioning every event, Saturday is easily filled with the most events for you to take in. The radar run begins at 10 a.m. as well as a vintage snowmobile show. I love these vintage shows, except that the sleds in the show were the ones I was driving in my youth. I guess that makes me vintage.
The Center City Fire Hall will host the kids’ ice fishing camp. Last year, this was very well attended but the sub-arctic temps kept the kids from wetting a line. The forecast looks good for this year’s event so grab the kids, grab their warm clothes, and come to the clinic. They will get to fish after the clinic.
If you are a runner, the annual 5K run/walk also begins at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. It is located by the Swedish Village Mall.
Looking for a little extra cash? Try looking for the lost medallion. Buy a button, find the medallion and take home $100 cash. The hunt clue release begins at 11 a.m.
The fourth annual Smoosh race will take place at noon. Teams of four strap themselves to two boards and try to maneuver through a tricky figure eight course. You are asked to register your team asap, on the Chisago Lakes Chamber website.
At noon, there will be hockey golf, as well as the always popular sled dog rides.
The Chisago Lakes Lions Club will host the annual fishing tournament at 1 p.m. on North Center Lake.
I could keep going, and I promise to tell you more next week, but seriously this is such a great event, you really don’t want to miss it. Mark you calendars, call your friends and I will see you out there... look for the vintage publisher.
